Artist's Statement

 I earned a BFA in art and design in 1976, and chose to work as an Interior Designer for my professional career. In 2011, I retired and decided to delve into my original passion of painting, to essentially take up where I left off.

 

The first years of my life were spent on a farm where I was surrounded by animals.  They were my friends and companions. This powerful first impression has influenced my love of nature, for the outdoors, for all animals, really for all of God’s creation.

 

The medium I choose to work in is both graphite and oil. I appreciate the precision which the graphite affords and, of course, the color and blending powers of the oils are so very fulfilling. My subject matter of choice is painting or drawing portraits of humans and animals.

 

In the past, I taught Interior Design at a local college. I really enjoyed teaching and now am teaching art to a small class on a weekly basis. My students’ interests have forced me to expand my subject matter to florals, seascapes, and still lifes. These subjects bring new challenges, but ones which I embrace.

 

For me, seeing, appreciating and studying God’s Divine Creation is a blessing and painting is a vehicle for embracing this beauty.
